Torrey Pines North is a San Diego treasure. Over the last five decades Torrey Pines North has hosted hundreds of thousands of local players and visitors, nearly 80,000 annually. It is also the site of the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open, which has raised millions of dollars for local charities since the late 1960s.
As prime consultants, Schmidt Design Group teamed with professional golfer and San Diego native Phil Mickelson’s design firm in the renovation of the City of San Diego’s famed seaside golf course. The proposed project enhances the natural setting of one of the nation’s most popular golf venues. The proposed improvements will greatly expand the playability of the course by adding forward tees and opening greens for mid to high-handicap players, while improving the challenges for better players. The result is a design that modernizes an outdated venue and makes it attractive to San Diegans, visitors from around the world, and professional events. Schmidt Design Group’s scope of work includes lead community facilitation, general development plan creation, and environmental approvals.
