Project Info
Schmidt Design Group provided landscape architecture services for this 3.5-acre lot with a three-story 100,000-square-foot medical facility and four-level parking structure. The overall landscape palette for the project draws inspiration from the colorful and texturally diverse landscape that permeates the Rancho Bernardo area. The palette is comprised of drought tolerant and low water use species. Canary Island Pine trees are planted along West Bernardo Drive to continue the already established aesthetic. These pines are also located along the northern perimeter of the property to complement the scale of the adjacent parking structure and medical building. Sycamore trees are strategically located along the northern perimeter to provide textural and seasonal interest.
The parking lot includes evergreen Australian Willow trees to provide shade. Eight towering Ipe trees frame the eastern terminus of the parking lot to enhance the guest’s arrival experience. The ground plane consists of a diverse range of shrubs, groundcovers, and vines that offer year-round interest. These plants are organized in organic masses reflective of the surrounding Rancho Bernardo landscape. Foundation planting against the building are be slightly more structured in response to their relationship to the architecture.
