Project Info
Schmidt Design Group, Inc. performed as a subconsultatn to Zagrodnik + Thomas Architects on the Scripps Ranch High School Sustainable Technology Facility for the San Diego Unified School District. The firm provided landscape, irrigation, and hardscape paving using drought-tolerant, low-water-use plantings, and a central control irrigation system with low precipitation rate heads. An additional water-saving feature is the rainwater harvesting system, which captures and re-uses 100 percent of the rainwater available for the site. Storm drain run-off and roof run-off is captured and stored in an underground storage tank for re-use in the lowprecipitation rate automated irrigation system. Excess harvested rainwater is piped into the building for flushing of low-flow toilets. The site also features a solar clock at the entry plaza which identifies the winter, spring, summer, and fall solstices.
