Del Sur Neighborhood Park is a 5-acre park located in the Del Sur community of San Diego, California. Working in collaboration with the community, Lennar Homes, and City of San Diego; Schmidt Design Group fulfilled this neighborhood’s unique needs by providing amenities not found the surrounding master-planned community. These include a tennis court, basketball court, 6,000 square foot skate park, 2,200 square foot nature-inspired playground, comfort station, a large covered gazebo and a custom shade trellis with picnic tables below. The large, open, flexible turf area is designed and graded to provide 180’x300’ flat area for various athletic fields, with a small backstop located in the northwest corner. Individual tables and benches located throughout the park create additional seating and picnic opportunities. The park also includes a stormwater treatment basin beneath a 50-foot long observation deck providing panoramic views of the canyonlands to the west. A network of walking and hiking trails connect the park to the canyon and the wider community. Featured at the main entry to the park, two massive boulders over 6’ in height greet visitors and focus the line of sight on the observation deck and canyon on the opposite side of the park. The plant palette is immersive and includes a wide range of native species which reinforce the parks relationship to the adjacent canyons.
