Project Info
Once a sand and gravel quarry, 3Roots Community Park creates a new destination for recreation and play in the community of Mira Mesa. The park design draws inspiration from the site history reflected in the geometry of the walkways, the subtle mounding implemented throughout the park, and the industrial vernacular of the architecture and furnishings. The park will boast four baseball diamonds, three soccer fields, two large children’s play areas, an outdoor fitness area, one-acre dog park, amphitheater space for events and trophy ceremonies, two basketball courts, and numerous picnic pavilions. Two custom concession and restroom buildings will be located in the park. These structures will be constructed from modified shipping containers reflecting the industrial roots of the site. A lop bath encompasses the park providing views into, and visually connections to, the adjacent open space. A diverse range of flowering deciduous, evergreen, and coniferous trees will offer shade throughout the park. Shrubs and groundcovers will celebrate seasonality providing a rich tapestry of colors, textures, and forms. Once implemented, 3Roots Community Park will fill a significant void in the active recreation needs of the Mira Mesa community.
