Project Info
Schmidt Design Group, in conjunction with Stantec, worked on the expansion of Park de La Cruz Neighborhood Park in the City Heights area of San Diego. The expansion includes ADA upgrades, a .64-acre park expansion connecting the park to Cherokee Point Park, new shade structures and picnic tables, improvements to an existing basketball court, landscape improvements, bioswales, bioretention basins, and a new skate park. The 19,000-square-foot skate park is custom designed to appeal to multi-generational users from the surrounding neighborhood and provide a safe skating environment for the local community. The skate park includes a wide variety of custom features such as a backyard pool replica, unique flow bowl area with spine ramp, extensions and an escalator love seat, a stair set designed as a tribute to a popular local skate spot, two different euro step up gaps, several grind rail and ledge combinations, an a-frame with rails and flat gap, manual pads, and signature ‘M’ transition ramp feature.
